Following the impact of her bestselling adult mental health guide Right Now! Practical Strategies for Anxiety, Depression, and Suicidal Thinking, author and suicide prevention advocate Suzanne K. Oliver is expanding her mission, this time, for a younger audience.
Oliver has announced the development of her next book: a children’s story focused on emotional literacy, self-expression, and early mental wellness strategies. While still in production, the project promises to provide kids, parents, and educators with an engaging tool to talk about emotions before they become overwhelming.
“If we can give kids the tools to express themselves early, we can prevent a lot of suffering later,” says Oliver. “This book is my next step toward creating a healthier, more emotionally connected generation.”
Why Start With Children?
According to the CDC, symptoms of anxiety and depression are now showing up in children as young as six. Yet many schools and homes lack structured ways to help kids understand what they are feeling, or how to talk about it.
Suzanne’s forthcoming children’s book aims to change that by introducing:
- Simple emotional vocabulary for sadness, anger, fear, and joy
- Age-appropriate coping strategies, such as breathing, movement, art, and journaling
- Encouraging dialogue prompts for parents and teachers
- Empathy-building narratives to support peer understanding
This project is being developed with input from child psychologists, educators, and parents to ensure both accessibility and therapeutic value.
A Continuation of the “Right Now!” Mission
Oliver’s adult book Right Now! Was created after losing both her son and husband to suicide. That experience sparked her mission to share everything she learned too late, strategies for emotional survival, mental healing, and whole-person support.
Her children’s book will carry that same spirit forward, addressing emotional well-being before a crisis ever begins.
“What if kids learned emotional resilience the same way they learn math or reading?” Oliver asks. “That is the future I want to help build.”
Early Praise and Community Excitement
Teachers, parents, and therapists who have benefited from Right Now! Are already expressing excitement about the new project.
“A children’s book by Suzanne is exactly what the world needs. If anyone can make emotional wellness accessible to little ones, it is her.”
—Elementary School Counselor, California
The book is expected to be released in [Late 2025/Early 2026], with updates and preorders available via SuzanneKOliver.com.
